The Glee S. Smith, Jr. papers document Smith's tenure as a state senator between 1957-1972, the chairman of the Board of Regents, and as a lawyer in Larned, Kansas. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence files organized by topic or organization with which Smith was involved. These include the Board of Regents, various state legislators, constituents and concerned Kansas residents, the 4-H Foundation, Inc., the University of Kansas Alumni Association, American College of Probate Counsel, Kansas Bar Association, KU Endowment Association, and several other groups. Several files concern the Board of Regents Uniform Laws, legal services, senate correspondence, and senate budget committee. Also included are copies of legislative journals, calendars, house and senate resolutions, and bills voted on during his time as senator.

Glee Sidney Smith Jr. was born on April 29, 1921 in Rozel, Kansas. In 1947 he began practicing law with the late Judge Maurice A. Wildgen.
